Creative Artiste Challenge - You Can't Overdose on Music

Time for another great challenge over at Creative Artiste.  Our theme is always

"Anything Mixed Media Goes"

Please make sure you use multiple mediums on your projects. Please respect that we do not accept Instagram entries. Only correctly linked blog entries please.

Your project must be Mixed Media and can be an ATC, tag, card, layout, altered art or an off-the-page project as long as you follow the challenge specifications. You must use more then 3 different mediums on your project to qualify for our mixed media rules.

This is my project for this month.

I love mixed media, altered art, flea markets and garage sales. I had this violin in my stash and decided to make an altered mixed media music canvas.

My violin was found at a local thrift store.   I added several different pieces to the violin including wooden butterfly, metal gear and clogs, metal flowers, dollar store gems, die cut notes.

The sentiment idea (you can't overdose on Music) came from Pinterest and inspired my canvas.

I used a reversed wooden canvas for the base and used some old music sheets for the background.  The background was stained with a brown paper stain.

I added many finding from my stash to the background, including gears, musical symbols, gems, metal flowers etc to the background.  I painted most of them with gesso then paints and metallic waxes. The inside edge and outer edge of the canvas was lined with burlap tape.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week.

I am entering my canvas in the following challenges

  3. Love this idea. Wish I’d thought of it before getting rid of a violin. Was it a full sized violin? I have a dulcimer I need to do something with.

  11. This music canvas is so great! I love all the music related bits and gears and other bits added right onto the violin. And the background is wonderful. The sentiment is perfect. The one thing that no one ever gets tired of is music.
