Creative Artiste - November Challenge - Anything Goes Mixed Media

Time for another great challenge over at Creative ArtisteOur theme is as always

"Anything Mixed Media Goes"

Please make sure you use multiple mediums on your projects. Please respect that we do not currently accept Instagram or Facebook entries.

The term “mixed media art” is a broad definition that covers many forms of arts and crafts, including collage, assemblage, altered objects, handmade greeting cards, artist trading cards (ATCs) tags and art journaling  as long as you use different mediums.

The “mixed media” used includes paint, paper, pastes, sprays, powders, textural elements, clay, resins, fabrics, found objects, photos, metal, inks, pencils, markers and pastels to name just a few.

This month I created a wall hanging using pictures of my 6 weeks summer holiday  trip to the north. My husband and I travelled with our trailer and our old dog to Northern British Columbia, the Yukon and the Northwest territories. We went north  to Tuktoyaktuk, the most village in North America.   I took about 600 pictures but had problems with my camera and getting the pictures off the phone.

This is my Project

I used 3 books for the project which I added my mixed media paints, crackle paint, inks, my photographs from the trip, tourist maps and brochures from different tourism places.

The smallest book contains my notes for the trip, places we went, dates, the price of camping, where we camped and food and gas prices. I made this first book a few months before the trip and it was one of my summer blog projects.

I made the next two books in the wall hanging when we returned from our trip, one book contains photographs of some of our favourite places we visited and the other book are collages of the tourist pamphlets we gathered along the way. In both books I added notes of stories on our trip along the way. I used a belt from the thrift store to hang the books from and E6000 to attach the books to the belt.

Some pictures from the Road Trip book (collages made from the tourist info we collected)

Some pictures from our trip ( we took over 500 pictures)

When we arrived at the Arctic Circle

When Glen, I and Lacey arriving at the Arctic Ocean

This was the picture that my inspired me to try and make an the off the wall hanging. The artist was Beryl Taylor.

I found the idea in the Winter 2006 addition of Cloth Paper Scissors.

This is still a work in progress wall hanging. Every time I thing I am finished another idea pops into my head.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative month. Hope you will join us this month. Remember to pop over to our challenge blog to be inspired by our creative design team.

  2. What a fabulous piece to remember your trip - it looks fabulous - I've never been that far north! That's a great idea to use a belt to hang it off - I wasn't sure if it was a dog collar. A great idea for hanging Christmas cards off too

  4. This is brilliant, Judy, and somehow appeals to me more than scrapbooks do! Cloth Paper Scissors was a wonderful magazine, and I'm sad it's not coming out any more. Love how you've made the idea from there your own, and are creating a lovely memento. I do hope you're able to get all the pictures off your phone without much trouble. Have a happy and creative November! Anita xo
