Welcome to my crafting blog. After retirement, my husband and I moved to a beautiful location in the Okanagan area of British Columbia. I love all paper crafts including mixed media, journaling and cards. I also dabble in papermaking, photography, fibre art, and altered books. I am an active member of several card and mixed media groups and on the design team of several challenge blog. I love the world of blogging, it has opened many doors for me. My favourite quote is by Maya Angelou. “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” I hope you join me in my search for my creative side. Thanks for stopping by!

It's a Bugs Life

The theme of the challenge this week at Crafty Cardmakers is "It's a Bugs Life".

I have been playing with my alcohol Inks and decided it was nice background paper for my dragonfly die. I had heard about using Kilz (a primer/sealer) on mixed media paper to seal the paper to be able to use alcohol on it. It appears to work very well for this application. Kilz can be purchased at a hardware or paint store.   I also used several colours of Nuvo Crystal and Glitter Drops on the wings.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week.   Check out the works of our talented design team here.

Altered Box with Paints, Inks and Encaustics

I am so excited to be invited to participate in an exciting mixed media challenge blog called Bleeding Art Challenge Blog.

I decided to make an altered box as my first project using a finding that inspired me.

This is an old metal napkin holder that I found at a garage sale that my hubby cut it a part for me.  The box was a card board box from my stash.

I first added gesso to the box and napkin holder and then added a stenciled pattern to the box. My next step was to spray the box with a couple of different inks and add gold glamour paint to the edges. I added pearls to the area that was created when I put the two parts together.  I also added glamour paint to the edges of the napkin piece.

To complete the project I dipped a fabric flower I made in Encausic wax and maneuvered the petals to the shape I liked for the flower. To complete the design I added a butterfly.

here are some other views of the box.

Creativity is Contagious

Splashy Mix Challenges has a colour challenge this month.

For the purpose of this challenge mixed media is an artwork in which more than one medium or material has been used. There is no definite rules and definitions. No end point

We are free to create our projects with different mediums, textures, colours, layers, objects etc

Unleash your creativity through this art.

This is the mood board for the challenge. I believe the colours are so striking.

We would love to see what inspired you, hence please mention it in your post. Check out our blog to see the special prizes our sponsors are providing to our lucky winners.

This is my canvas I created for the challenge.

I created this canvas using a couple of  stencils, acrylic paints, gel, Posca and  Pitt pens.  The large flower is metal and came off of napkin ring that I recycled. The saying is one of my favorites about creativity.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week.  Remember to pop over to our challenge blog to be inspired by our talented design team.

Altered Glass Plate with Rice Paper

This is my project for the month of August at Creative Artiste.  As always the theme at Creative Artiste is anything goes as long as it is mixed media and/or altered art.

m

This is what I started with

I decoupaged this glass plate I found at a thrift store.  I  just loved the shape of it. I used my scraps of Stamperia rice paper using Pentart  Decoupage Varnish and Glue for Ceramics. There are 3 different rice paper patterns for the design.  I first decoupaged the rice paper to the bottom of the glass.  Once I was  satisfied with the design  and the the papers were  dry I  painted a couple of layers of white acrylic paint on top of the rice paper and then painted a couple of coats of dark green acrylic paint.  To complete the project I added Glamour Metallic Paint in rich gold  along the edges of the plate.

I decided to use the rest of my paper on a white candle and the base I made for it.
