Time for another great challenge over at Creative Artiste this month.
Our Theme is as always
"Anything Mixed Media Goes"
Please make sure you use multiple mediums on your projects. Please respect that we do not accept Instagram entries. The term “mixed media art” is a broad definition that covers many forms of arts and crafts, including collage, assemblage, altered objects, handmade greeting cards, artist trading cards (ATCs) tags and art journaling as long as you use different mediums.
The “mixed media” used includes paint, paper, pastes, sprays, powders, textural elements, clay, resins, fabrics, found objects, photos, metal, inks, pencils, markers and pastels to name just a few.
This is my project for October, an altered Mannequin.
I found this mannequin at our local thrift store, Restore. What a bargain for $10.00!
The Mannequin is very solid and my hubby is going to make a lamp out of it for me. It weighs about 15 pounds (7 kilo) and the metal post supporting, runs through the bust it is hollow so we could run electrical wire through it. The platform is on also is hollow.
Here are some more view of the project.
I used a combination of real shells, plaster shells and starfish, findings, faux pearls. The collage is painted with Pentart's Paints to give an antique effect.
Closer look at the front. of the dress.
The top design is a old necklace that I took apart and attached upside down.
I liked the faux large pearl on the necklace.
This is the back of the mannequin,
I added crackling paste to the skin portion of the bust then added a purple colour and then a layer of portrait paint over top.
I added a seahorse that I antiqued to the back of the bust. I used a Tim Holtz chunky embossing powder and stain to antique the seahorse.
Altered dry star fish.
The star fish I purchased at a tourist place in New Brunswick on a holiday years ago. I added paint to them and attached them to the base.
Altered Porpoise
I found this little porpoise in my stash. I antiques it and added it to the mermaid's shoulder.
Products I used for the project are:
White Gesso
Shells
Ceramic Shells
Pieces of Jewelry
Faux Jewels and Pearls
Stampendous Chunky Metal Embossing Powder
Buzz light Portrait Pink Acrylic Paint
Amsterdam Violet Acrylic Paint
Kroma Crackle Paint
Pentart Gold Metallic Wax
