Creative Artiste - December Challenge - Anything Goes Mixed Media / Optional Twist ,Something Related to Christmas

This is the last challenge of 2025 at Creative Artiste. We have had a wonderful year of crafting  and fun with our talented design team. I have learnt so much from these wonderful ladies.

The challenge this month is as always, anything goes mixed media. The optional twist for this challenge is to create a project related to Christmas.

I created with picture of a heron flying in a winter storm using encaustic
wax as a present for Christmas for one of my sister who is a very devoted volunteer at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

To create my project

I used a 12 inch wooden frame
I covered the surface of the frame first with a thick
layer of hot bee's wax and smoothed it out.

The rocks on the bottom of the picture were created using Citra Solv National Geographic Magazine pages then cutting them into shapes to fit composition. you can find directions for the use of Citra Solv and the National Geographic Magazines

The flying heron is a pencil and charcoal drawing which I also added to my composition.

I used bee's wax for the sky along with several shades and colours of encaustic wax.  My rocks and heron were attached to the picture with waxes and then to added some interest by making markings in the sky and rocks and highlighting them with a small amount of brown oil paint.

Once I had completed my project I polished the waxes with a soft cloth.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great holiday season. Hope to see you back here again in 2026.

The Creative Artiste Design Team will be taking their usual winter break in January but we will be back on February 6th 2026 with more mixed media inspiration.

Happy Holidays - Judy
