Creative Artist September 2025 - Mixed Media Art Journal

Welcome to another challenge at Creative Artiste

Our theme is always
"Anything Mixed Media Goes"

Please make sure you use multiple mediums on your projects.

The term “mixed media art” is a broad definition that covers many forms of arts and crafts, including collage, assemblage, altered objects, handmade greeting cards, artist trading cards (ATCs) tags and art journaling  as long as you use different mediums.

The “mixed media” used includes paint, paper, pastes, sprays, powders, textural elements, clay, resins, fabrics, found objects, photos, metal, inks, pencils, markers and pastels to name just a few.

The best thing with Mixed Media is there is no right or wrong way of doing things. There are no boundaries or rules to follow, it is all about where your creativity takes you. Mixed media can be kept simple with minimal clean lines, or as fussy and manic as you like. It's a great way to use up your scraps too, we all are guilty of keeping those little bits and pieces thinking it's too nice to just through away, even those teeny tiny off cuts of ribbon and lace.

Mixed Media is also a great way to upcycle because anything goes. Empty packaging, glass jars or bottles can be transformed. Got a pack of cards that have a few missing - turn them into little mini pieces of art. The possibilities are endless.
Make mixed media work for you, don't doubt yourself thinking you can't do this that or the other because it's might not be your style etc., just add your own twist
 to things.

This is my project for this month, a few more pages I have added to one of my art journal book.

This is my project for this month

                                      Judy McKay for Creative Artiste

This was my first page I added to this week's journal pages.

I used a selection of inks and stamping for the background. The flower stamp is from my  collection of unmounted rubber stamp. I used a black pen to add definition to my circles.
The flowers are coloured with Pan Pastels.

Some tags from my scraps I started with to make my tags for this page.

For the tags I used a combination of acrylic paint, tissue paper, inks, rubber stamps,  inks and found ribbon

Thank you for joining us ar Creative Artiste this month. Hope to see you back here again soon. Remember to pop over to our challenge blog  to be inspired by our talented design team.

I created my box to hold my computer cords etc where I keep my charge
cord in my kitchen. I was trying to create the box to fit in with my  1940's pottery cookie jar.

I purchased a set of wooden canisters box at a thrift store a few years ago. I like them to alter because they are made of good solid wood and they have a lining of plastic that can be taken out if required. They are neat to alter and can store trinket, jewelry, cookies etc ......

Old Canister

I found at a thrift store, t
hese metal leaves and flower that I altered.
The leaves were from a bathroom shower curtain.

The metal flower was at a local garage sale and I think it came off a necklaces.

More view of the project.

I decoupaged a large bee from a napkin to the box and used a die cut honey bee - honey comb for the background.

The box was painted with Acrylic paints, distress walnut ink, some crackle paint and waxes.

When the box was finished I sprayed it with a clear acrylic paint spray to protect the design. Thank you for stopping by and have a creative month. Hope you will join the fun this month. Remember to pop over to our challenge blog to see the projects of our design team.

Creating my collage.

I had started this mixed media board but did not care for it so I decided to re-think my plan and add some collage details.

I used a combination of papers, acrylic paints, stencils, molding paste and a mixture of papers from my stash.  I love the sentiment Richelle Goodrich, it was the inspiration for the collage along with the butterflies I collected in my stash. To complete the collage I added orange cord to the sides of the frame.

Creative Artiste - February 2024 - Anything Goes Mixed Media

Welcome back to Creative Artiste Challenges.  I hope 2024 is a very creative year for all of you.  There is so much going on in our world that sometimes so nice to hide out in our craft rooms.

As always our challenge is anything mixed media.  Your project must be Mixed Media and can be an ATC, tag, card, layout, altered art or an off-the-page project as long as you follow the challenge specifications. You must use at least 3 different mediums on your project to qualify for our mixed media rules.

This is my project for this challenged, an altered wooden canister.
I made the project as a gift for my 4 year old granddaughter to store her little treasures in.

This is the wooden canister  I started out with. I love using the wooden canisters as my canvas because they allow me to be creative and make something that I can make a to use as a gift  or a box can be used as a gift box. Most of them I have found in thrift stores foe vey little money and they usually have a plastic liner which means the box can hold cookies etc.

I sand the boxes then add my gesso, acrylic paints, assortment of inks, glitter, gel pen, stamps, die cuts, copic markers, Nuvo and findings.

I hope she will like her little gift. It was fun to make. Thank you for stopping by and have a creative month. Remember to check out all of the projects of our talented design team members.  Hope you will join us this month.

Creative Artiste - Anything Goes Mixed Media Challenge

We have another great challenge happening over at Creative Artiste, as always the Challenge is anything goes mixed media.

This is my project for October - Steampunk man, an altered metal trivet plate.

This is the metal trivet plate I found at a the thirft store that was the inspiration for my altered picture.

I have been trying to use my stash of art supplies in my projects lately so when I added my rust effects to the metal I used a couple of different brands of paints.

After this pic was taken I added more copper and texture to the frame.
To create the scene I used a rubber stamp called Steampunkman by Sheene Douglas.  I used wooden gears, clocks etc from my stash and some gear die cuts to create the pattern. I also add so metal findings such as a keys and small clock. The wording was from some designer paper by Stamperia.

I added a sheet of dark gray paper behind the picture so that the pieces stood out more.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week. Hope you will join us this month at Creative Artiste and remember to stop over to our blog to be inspired by our talented design team.
