Creative Artiste - December Challenge - Anything Goes Mixed Media / Optional Twist ,Something Related to Christmas

This is the last challenge of 2025 at Creative Artiste. We have had a wonderful year of crafting  and fun with our talented design team. I have learnt so much from these wonderful ladies.

The challenge this month is as always, anything goes mixed media. The optional twist for this challenge is to create a project related to Christmas.

I created with picture of a heron flying in a winter storm using encaustic
wax as a present for Christmas for one of my sister who is a very devoted volunteer at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

To create my project

I used a 12 inch wooden frame
I covered the surface of the frame first with a thick
layer of hot bee's wax and smoothed it out.

The rocks on the bottom of the picture were created using Citra Solv National Geographic Magazine pages then cutting them into shapes to fit composition. you can find directions for the use of Citra Solv and the National Geographic Magazines

The flying heron is a pencil and charcoal drawing which I also added to my composition.

I used bee's wax for the sky along with several shades and colours of encaustic wax.  My rocks and heron were attached to the picture with waxes and then to added some interest by making markings in the sky and rocks and highlighting them with a small amount of brown oil paint.

Once I had completed my project I polished the waxes with a soft cloth.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great holiday season. Hope to see you back here again in 2026.

The Creative Artiste Design Team will be taking their usual winter break in January but we will be back on February 6th 2026 with more mixed media inspiration.

Happy Holidays - Judy

Creative Artiste - November Anything Goes - Mixed Media Challenge

Welcome to another challenge at Creative Artiste

Our theme is always
"Anything Mixed Media Goes"

This is my project for this month - a Mixed Media Christmas Hanging.

Please make sure you use multiple mediums on your projects.

The term “mixed media art” is a broad definition that covers many forms of arts and crafts, including collage, assemblage, altered objects, handmade greeting cards, artist trading cards (ATCs) tags and art journaling  as long as you use different mediums.

The “mixed media” used includes paint, paper, pastes, sprays, powders, textural elements, clay, resins, fabrics, found objects, photos, metal, inks, pencils, markers and pastels to name just a few.

The best thing with Mixed Media is there is no right or wrong way of doing things. There are no boundaries or rules to follow, it is all about where your creativity takes you. Mixed media can be kept simple with minimal clean lines, or as fussy and manic as you like. It's a great way to use up your scraps too, we all are guilty of keeping those little bits and pieces thinking it's too nice to just through away, even those teeny tiny off cuts of ribbon and lace.

Mixed Media is also a great way to upcycle because anything goes. Empty packaging, glass jars or bottles can be transformed. Got a pack of cards that have a few missing - turn them into little mini pieces of art. The possibilities are endless.
Make mixed media work for you, don't doubt yourself thinking you can't do this that or the other because it's might not be your style etc., just add your own twist
 to things.

To create my project I used a wooden craft frame as my base. I painted a base coat then used a large star stencil and stenciled the frame with stars. I had a few small frames in my stash that I used that I decided to paint and add to my collage and filled with Christmas theme elements.
Some of the elements I used were Christmas Bells, die cut deer, flowers, snowflakes and  Christmas paper from my stash.  I also added some gems, glitter, small paper flowers,  Mega art stones and Metallic Gilding Polish.

It was a fun project to make. Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week. Hope you will join our challenge this month. Remember to stop by our challenge blog to see the beautiful art work of our talented design team .   Hugs Judy

A Place to Start November - Anything Goes with Optional Twist - Try Something New

We have another great challenge happening at A Place to Start

The theme of the project this month is Anything Goes with an Optional Twist of  "Something New"

I was looking through some of my Christmas craft supplies and found the Christmas tree rubber stamp by Poppy that I have used on this clip board that I also found in the box. This is not the only stamp I found in the Christmas box that had never been used. The paper I used for the tag was also in the box, I believe I purchased it at Michaels at the end of the season.

To make my Christmas Clip Board I also used

Wooden Clip Board
Snowflake tape
Sentiments by Poppy
Distress Inks
Ribbon
Copics

My plan for the clip board is to add paper behind the Christmas scene and add my Christmas card list for up coming years.

Thank you for Stopping by and have a creative week.

613 Avenue Create - November - Anything goes or optional twist Thank you! (create a thankful project)

Time for another challenge at 613 Avenue Create. The theme of this challenge is anything goes with an optional twist of creating something to say thank you.

This is my "thank you project" for November's challenge.

I create a Christmas present box for a gift to say thank you to a friend for how she has helped me in some hard times. I have some earring that I am going to add to the box

I used a small metal box for the base of my project that I painted blue with acrylic paints and added a white doily for the background. I added some dollar store gems around the  top of the lid that I also painted blue then added Metallic Gilding Polish to give them some shine.

The top of the box I decorated with die cut poinsettias which I painted with acrylic paint, Christmas greenery and a sentiment.  I hope she enjoys my gift.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative month.

September 2025 - Challenge at 613 Avenue Create. - ANYTHING GOES W/ OPTIONAL TWIST LOTS OF LEAVES

Time for another challenge at 613 Avenue Create

This is my card for this challenge.

I do love using leaves on my card. The brown background paper with the little leaves is from my stash but unfortunately  I have lost the cover of the paper stack and I do not know who's the designer of the paper is. The paper is so pretty. The textured brown paper that I added the black dots to is the glass wrapping paper from a friend studio.

The leaves are die cuts from a set of dies by Time Holtz.   I added a small ribbon to connect the two leaves.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week. Remember to pop over to our challenge blog at 613 Avenue Create, to see the beautiful creations for our talented design team.
