August Mixed Media Challenge at Creative Artiste

Time for another mixed media challenge at Creative Artiste

Our fabulous sponsor this month is

I decided to make an altered  box using my new Andy Skinner swirl stencil.

I started with one of three wooden boxes I found at a thrift store.  I got all three boxes for $2.00.

This is the wooden canister I started with.

Here are some more pictures of the project.

I painted my box with gesso then added texture using Andy Skinners swirl stencil and molding paste.  I then painted the box with several colours of Acrylic Paint.

Next I added some round metal findings from a metal belt I found at a thrift store.

The knob on the top of the box was made with glueing a child's tea cup saucer, and a gear from my broken mix master.  I added some dollar store gems to the edge of the box and painted them the colour of the box.   My  last step was to paint my project with Copper Modern Options Sophisticated Finishes and then Patina Green .   I love the antique effect it gives a project.

Altered Recipe Box

This is my project for August challenge over at Rhedd's Creative Spirit.  I altered a wooden recipe box this month.

This is what I started with.

I sanded the box and then coated it with a layer of gesso. I used a brick stencil, lace on the edge of the lid and around the bottom of the box. I coloured the box with a few different colours of acrylic paint and sprays.  I also used a script rubber stamp  to add more interest to the background.

Our sponsor this month is

Heart - Altered Bottle

This altered bottle is  my project as DT at Altered Eclectics this month.

This is what my bottle looked like before I altered it.

I used a combination of gesso, a couple of colours of acrylic paints and the base of the bottle .  I used Deco Arts Metallic Luster (Orange Flicker) and  Inka Gold (Green Yellow)  to give the bottle shine and to accent the leaf  and heart design on the bottle. I added some lace for texture.  The large metal heart is a belt buckle that I coloured with paint and a gold leafing pen. I glued the metal heart on to the bottle with E6000.

This is the buckle close up.

This is the back of the bottle.  It used a couple of wooden hearts for the back of the bottle.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week. Remember to stop by Altered Eclectics to be inspired by the talented works of our design tea,
