A Place to Start - September 2023 - All that Glitters

 Time for another great challenge over at A Place to Start.  The theme this month is "All that Glitters". 

This is my project for the challenge, an altered eye glass case.

This is what I started with.

To create my project I painted my eye glass case with white gesso then sprayed the box with Kilz (primer/sealer) to seal the gesso. I dribbled a few different colours of alcohol inks over the box to create the colour effect I wanted.  I also used a small amount of white acrylic paint on the box in some areas.  When the ink was dried I sprayed the box with acrylic paint to give it some more shine.

 I added some sparkly gems and a butterfly. I used Nuvo sliver glitter to give the butterfly some sparkle. I glued the butterfly partly on to the top section on the opening so you could use the butterfly as a clasp.

Make it Elegant Challenge

Time for another challenge over at A Place to Start and the theme of this challenge is to make it Elegant. The challenge is anything goes - it does not have to be a card.  

I decided to make two projects for the challenge, a card and an altered box in the elegant theme.

I used this lovely image from Graphics Fairy for my card.  I love this flapper style image.  The dresses in that era are stunning.  

The ladies were coloured with copics, pencil crayon, Nuvo, stenciled background with Panpastels, Wink of Stella and a glitter pen.

For my second project I decided to alter a tin heart box I had in my stash.

This is the box I altered. I purchased several of the boxes at a thrift store several years ago.

I am going to use this box I altered for the container I need for a friend's birthday gift.

I have used gems from a dollar store along with a Stamperia mold, die inks and a fabric butterfly from a fabric store.  Once I got my box decorated the wave I wanted I added Pentart gold wax to give the box more elegance and shine.

Altered Box with Paints, Inks and Encaustics

I am so excited to be invited to participate in an exciting mixed media challenge blog called Bleeding Art Challenge Blog.  

I decided to make an altered box as my first project using a finding that inspired me.

This is an old metal napkin holder that I found at a garage sale that my hubby cut it a part for me.  The box was a card board box from my stash. 

I first added gesso to the box and napkin holder and then added a stenciled pattern to the box. My next step was to spray the box with a couple of different inks and add gold glamour paint to the edges. I added pearls to the area that was created when I put the two parts together.  I also added glamour paint to the edges of the napkin piece. 

To complete the project I dipped a fabric flower I made in Encausic wax and maneuvered the petals to the shape I liked for the flower. To complete the design I added a butterfly.

Altered Eclectics - Altered Box

It is already the first of April and time for another mixed media/altered art challenge at Altered Eclectics. 

I decided to altered a pottery box that I was given years ago.  

This is the box I started with.

This is my box when I completed altering  it.

To created my altered box I first painted my box with black gesso, then to parts sections of the box I added crackling paste. I then used dye inks and acrylic paints in yellow, green and aqua blue to add colour to the box. 

To complete my box I added some roses that I had painted in the colors of my project.  The roses were ceramic and in their previous life they were  decorations on shower hooks.  I had to get the help of my husband to take the roses off of the hooks but it was worth it.  I got a set of 20 hooks at a thrift store for $1.00 which has given me 17 left over to use on future projects.
